Schools

Watching the following clip on TED.com really made me think...

As Ken says, school systems all over the world are educating students to fit into the industrial world, but industrialism ended long ago in the western world....

He tells a story of a friend who didn't fit in with the other kids at school, she was never still...I see this most every day.
Back then this girl didn't get a diagnose like ADD or ADHD, they were simply not available at that time so the doctor told her mother to put her in a dancing school, she did and the girl is now a multi millionaire having made the choreography for Cats and many other shows. A kid who can't sit still now days is given one or the other of the diagnoses above, some medicine and are told to calm down...

All this so we can fit them into the same mold with the goal to become university professors (they have to, when they hit the job market you will have to be a professor just to flip burgers at Burgerking with the current inflation of education)

He talks about how this school system is more or less designed to kill creativity, the arts are always way down at the bottom in the education hierarchy of every school. This is quite interesting because if you go out and ask the manager of any large company, he/she will tell you that creativity is what they want, they can buy knowledge for next to nothing in the developing countries (more on this here if you understand Swedish http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C0jDJ-wsMYI)

This is an important topic I hope I will have time to get back on...
